Personally i see the flaws in Kraken having played 96 Deco, Krak-On, and Heavy Deco. However Kraken isn't as bad as Inkzooka since if you react fast enough you'd be able to catch the kraken user during the start up and kill them, however with Zooka having practically no start lag similar to what it had in the first game, if the Zooka player pops their speacial all you can really do is pray they miss their first shot.

Something that had entered my head a while back, kraken in itself seems to counter aoe specials like booyah bomb and tristrike TOO WELL, and since tristrike is already a good zones and tower special, why not make it to where if someone is hit with a tristrike or booyah bomb while USING kraken royal to become disoriented, like not in the way of screen, more like the second the special lands on the kraken royal to spin them, and make them face a diffrent direction and perhaps charge attack towards their own team instead

*_THEY DONT NEED TO BRING BACK KNOCKBACK._* They need to address the invincibility because it's the only special that's invincible for more than 3 secs. *_Kraken needs HP to be destroyed_* Screw it, bring back S1 knockback and give kraken HP so u can destroy it - it's just a really large squid anyway. The ENTIRE community got crab tank nerfed to be one of the most counter-able specials in the game by content creators constantly complaining about "top level players say it's OP". Do the same for kraken and nintendo will listen to their customers, it's not like nintendo is pretending to be blind and deaf.

I never hated Kraken, if I died to it I find it my fault or sometimes it was due to terrible netcode. The CRB hate I understand since I don’t like fighting range blaster in general, due to bad netcode. Everytime I compare ultra stamp and Kraken it makes me even madder that Custom Gootuber got hammer instead of Kraken.

8:20 Nah. Nah, it wouldn't. Even with it not being that good of a special objectively, I still think it's bullshit that you can't really fight it in a way that matters. I still think the best way to balance it is to give it HP at all times (even while doing the charge attack) and buffing its movement and duration as a counterbuff. I will never understand why they decided to make Kraken completely invincible in a game where every other protection special has either HP or a weakspot.

Invincibility specials have no place in Splatoon imo

Not sure if this is already a feature with Kraken currently, but if it is it should definitely be more consistent; having the ability to jump over the charge attack could be interesting counterplay. Having the jump attack have more relevancy if you can only hit grounded enemies with the charge seems fair imo

I think something to note with kraken and lag. It’s the only thing in the game where juking it and dodging it is the only counter play.For every main weapon, you have a simple option, shoot them before they shoot you. with other specials, there’s often some kind of build up to the hitbox, some time where you know definitively where the special will be regardless of lag and can dodge the special reliably regardless of lag. Even ultra stamp which does benefit from lag, still has it’s turning speed limited, meaning that lag or not, there are places where the stamp user can’t be in the next few seconds. Kraken does not have this problem, from any given moment, kraken can theoretically go in any direction, you can’t ever get a guaranteed spot you know the kraken can’t go. And because of that, you HAVE to juke out the enemy kraken user, and try to make them miss. That’s the only option you have for fighting kraken. And lag massively buffs that strategy because it gives the player extra time to react to your jukes.

You can jump over kracken surges if you time it right and the user isn’t using Mcdonalds wifi.

S3 Kraken is ,balance wise, horribly designed. I still don know why the developers haven't added baller.

Honestly my hate towards this special was quite high already with C-liter, but with CRB it intensified so much. Most of the time when you see the opponents use their kraken all you can do is just back up (especially if you have a slow weapon). The invincibility is hella annoying, and the lack of knockback makes it frustrating.

I have problems with your balance suggestions for kraken the main one being you have no regard if the special is fun to use. For example your charge attack being replaced with extra paint or swim speed idea would make it easier for predict by removing options for the kraken which is removing skill expression with the special which makes it less fun to use and for this loss the user gets a neat buff that makes the special feel a smidge better.

Me personally, I just hate the fact it's on most of the lame weapons. I mean come on, .96 deco? Custom Range Blaster? SMH

I main crb and i agree with karakens proplems you have a fair point for lags and kraken doen't have alot of weaknees im not at the same level as chara not even in a million years but i have enough expirience for crb to agree with this.

This has been my least favorite special since release in S3 because the counterplay is just not fun. CRB has taken me from not liking it to actively disliking it.

Slider is 100% a net thing. From using Slider at a LAN the special is a whole extra tier of bullshit there. I think I died in the startup 1 time the entire event its a free panic button for zones cheese. Its also way easier to run people over compared to online when they go through it. Honestly think it might be the most screwed over by netcode special in the entire series but it still has its BS lag moments fighting it too where it explodes early, descyncs, or teleports out of the endlag. I think you could change kraken KB but you would have to really buff the base swim speed to make up for it and I'm not sure where that leaves the charge attack at all and that is the most fun part of the special to use. Maybe the charge attack takes extra knockback while charging but still none when moving not sure. Its an odd spot where I want it to be able to go chase something like Crab but also be stopped by 2 people. Personally what I want most though is nerfs to how it interacts with TC/RM, in the other 3 modes its horrible for objective by comparison.

Kraken has never given me a “Oh shit” moment compared to trizooka because it’s very easy to avoid. They can’t use it in front of you because of the delay and the charge is super predictable.

If anyone is wondering why kraken benefits from "lag" the most just think about it the main counter play for kraken is to dodge it but you can't reliably dodge something that doesn't even have to hit you one your screen due to the crappy netcode Like imagine you would just randomly die to missiles because the crappy netcode said you didn't dodge them even though thats the only counterplay

If they do change kraken in any way I would rather the devs take points from both casual and competitive instead of taking one side. Change it so that's good enough to use for competitive meta and fun for the casual

I'm neutral on kraken and all that but if I could give it a small nerf/rework would it be okay to make it that shooting it will make the charge attack's charge time slower? Like kraken taming of some sort. Some fast shooting weapons would have a advantage compared to slower ones but yeah that's one idea :D

If you think the start up and end lag are huge downsides you are using the special wrong. It’s not a panic button and you need to end in a safe spot to run away or super jump after, not in the enemy back lines

My biggest complaint is that I like playing as an octoling but the inkling kraken looks so much frickin cooler and the octoling one looks like megamind. From the new movie.

Let me ask this, would you rather have Kraken(which has always been in a good spot) or Ultra Stamp(which has never been in a good spot) return in the next game? I say this because more people are siding with Kraken. Also the only way to make Stamp an actual special is to make it completely block all attacks from the front. By the way, these videos on Kraken completely ignore the main trade-off, Kraken has to actually work for kills and actually do something otherwise it does absolutely nothing even with all the things it gives you.

5:36 I can list off so many reasons why Kraken in S1 wasn't as bad to deal with but for the sake of time I'll mention the most important one. Splatoon 1's tick rate was not abysmal.

This should go without saying but remember that this is all just my opinion. If you heard all of my points from both videos and still believe that Kraken is a fine and well-designed special, that's totally understandable. Feel free to tell me why as well. Also remember that I'm in no way trying to say that Kraken is the best special in the game, or that it's better than any other prevalent special such as Trizooka. The point I'm trying to make is just that the special is poorly designed and I personally think it needs some changes (without killing the special entirely)
